(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Department of the General Mufti in Jordan forbade wearing a wig instead of the hair cover; the veil (Hijab).
In a statement it issued, Dar Al-Ifta’ explained that the wig is considered as part of the noticeable ornament that the women can display to her husband and that she should hide before any foreigners; i.e. non-Mahram men, based on the following Quranic Ayah: “And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof…” (24:31).
In an answer to a question on whether it is permissible or not for the woman who wants to work in a certain job that preconditions not wearing the Hijab, to wear a wig instead of the veil, the department said that this is absolutely forbidden.
